Fighting Boobs with boobs

Every Friday morning there are protesters that gather outside our building. They usually hand out pamphlets chock full o' misinformation about Planned Parenthood, birth control, sex, and especially abortion. They sometimes get in the face of patients coming into the clinic (and force us to call the police like they did this morning), but much more often just gather outside our building, kneel on the sidewalk and pray. As far as protesters go it's pretty benign. But still, incredibly frustrating.

They often stand outside very early in the morning and are usually gone by around 9am. But this morning, when I came in at 10 they were still going strong. I checked again at 11, and again at noon. Still there. There were more than usual, and they had new and even more offensive pamphlets that they shoved into the hands of passersby.

At some point around noon a car drove past, slowed down and stopped. A woman jumped out and as she walked towards the protesters began stripping off the clothing on the top half of her body. When she finally got to the protesters she was standing in front of them completely naked from the waist up; her bare breasts hanging out in the open as she spoke and gesticulated and tried to engage them in conversation. People stopped on the sidewalks, and inside the building we ran towards the windows to watch the display, our mouths open in awe and disbelief.

Later that day we received a beautiful bouquet of flowers that said "Thank you PP! You are amazing. Thank you so much for the work you do!" Signed "The Woman Who Showed Her Boobs on the Street."

As if the mere fact that someone half naked confronted the protesters wasn't enough to raise our spirits, the bouquet sent us through the roof.

This mysterious woman disappeared back into the world of fully clothed people just as suddenly as she arrived. But on a day when the burden of uninformed opposition was weighing heavily on our patients and staff she was like a bare breasted goddess sent from above to support us with the strength that only a Maidenform bra can provide.
